Key Laboratory of High Performance Ceramic Fibers (Xiamen University), Ministry of Education was established in December 2009. Based on the strong chemical background of Xiamen University and the major national strategic needs, the main research interests of the laboratory are focused on polymer-derived ceramics and applications, such as high-performance ceramic fibers. Polymer-derived ceramic route is suitable for preparing high temperature materials at relatively low temperature. It is of significance both theoretically and practically. The laboratory has built up three platforms so far, including advanced basic research platform, designed for basic scientific research; pilot-scale research platform, suitable for the technology advance; testing and analysis platform. A series of technological and scientific breakthrough has been achieved in ceramic fibers with independent intellectual property rights. The laboratory has wide cooperation with universities and research institute home and abroad.
