The MOE Key Laboratory of Spectrochemical Analysis & Instrumentation (herein abbreviated as SCAI) is one of the leading laboratories dedicated to R&D in analytical sciences in China. Focusing on modern analytical sciences, SCAI is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and staffed by members with diverse analytical expertise. The mission of the laboratory is to conduct, promote and foster frontier researches in the development and application of analytical technologies to deal with problems of life, environment, material and energy. To accomplish this mission, the laboratory adopts multidisciplinary approaches, promotes team efforts, and participates actively in collaborative projects. The major research fields of SCAI are spectroscopy and mass spectrometry analysis, micro/nano-scale analysis, multimode imaging analysis and innovation instruments and devices.

SCAI currently has a total of 32 full-time staff members, including 23 professors and 9 associate professors. Among them Professor Ben-Li Huang is the member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Four of them are awardees of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young, six of them are Minjiang Scholar Distinguished Professors and seven of them are Xiamen University Distinguished Professors. Under their leadership, all the laboratory members focus on basic and applied research work in new principle, new technology and new method of spectrochemical analysis. SCAI maintains the leading domestic position in the field of atomic/molecular spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and scientific instrument development with high international influence.

In the past 5 years, the laboratory members received more than 132 research funds with the total amount of 127.99 million Yuan. The laboratory members had published 450 SCI articles, including 36 articles in Anal. Chem., the top journal in analytical sciences and 116 articles in JCR1 category journals such as Nature, Chem. Soc. Rev., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Nat. Commun. and Chem. Sci., etc. The laboratory members had applied 43 invention patents. They had received 2 provincial group awards and 9 personal provincial awards.
