Nuclear Receptors as Molecular Targets for Anti-cancer Drug Development Innovative Research Team led by Professor Zhang xiaokun, was approved in 2011 by the State Ministry of education.


Because of outstanding performance, the team received continuous support in 2014. To tackle challenging human health problems in the world and to enhance the quality of people’life, The team focuses on developing cures and remedies for diseases with the strong underpinning of research capabilities. The team is also committed to excellence in pharmacy education and research as evidenced by the establishment of a national “Drug Discovery and Research” initiative with the goal of advancing the pharmaceutical sciences.


The team strive to achieve this by creating a strong science and technology innovation platforms with specialties in pharmaceutical research, bolstering industrial ties and training students with specific aims, to construct an innovation center for pharmaceutical R&D and up-to-date medical production system in the Western Taiwan Straits Economic Zone.


Introduction of Xiao-kun Zhang


Xiao-kun Zhang, Ph.D. Professor, Dean.


Dr. Zhang received his bachelor degree from Xiamen University in China and earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Vermont in the United States. He spent three years as a postdoctoral fellow at Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute prior to his appointment to the faculty in 1992, and currently he is the professor at the cancer center of Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute. In 2006, he was recruited to Xiamen University as Dean of the school of pharmaceutical science. He was awarded as “Cheung Kong Scholar Lecture Professor” and was elected to the “National Thousand Talents Program”. Dr. Zhang has published more than 100 papers in prestigious journals such as Science, Nature and Cell, and holds more than ten U.S. patents.
